FAQs and troubleshooting of Shark SV780

Q: What is the difference between the sv780 and the sv780 euro version?

A: SV780 is the base model number. I looked on the Shark website and only saw the Euro version and the Pet version. The only difference would be the brush. One is specifically made for pet hair.

Q: Is there a difference between model number sc780 and sc780_n?

A: I don’t know of any difference between sv780 and sv780_n. I do know that the current version uses a 1300mAh NiMH and the older versions use a 1500 mAh Ni-CD battery.

Q: What is the difference between this version & the Euro-Pro version with the same model number?

A: Please contact Shark – 800-798-7398 for assistance with the differences.

Q: What’s the difference between this and the LV901 model?

A: I do not know the LV901 model but I bought one of these to pick up dog hair from furniture. I loved it so much I bought 2 more of them. I keep one each in two bedrooms and 1 downstairs for the furniture. I also use it on the stair steps going up. so much easier than my big sweepers. I think it runs for about 40 minutes

Q: What is the difference between pet perfect 11andthe 18-volt vacuum

A: Cannot answer this. Both 18v…possibly a larger capacity or more accessories with one of them.

Q: What is the difference between the lv801 and sv801? Do both products appear to be named the same?

A: Shark Pet Perfectâ„¢ II Cordless Bagless Hand Vacuum, SV780, uses an 18 Volt Ni-Mh battery. The Shark Cordless Pet Perfect Lithium-Ion Handheld Vacuum, LV801 uses a 10.8 Volt Lithium-ION battery.

Q: Is this good for dog hair and cat hair? constantly needing to clean the sofa with lint rollers. Need a different method…Vac Seems to be a good one.

A: Tested on dog hair that typically sticks to everything. The vacuum did well picking it up, especially on a full charge

Q: Can this vacuum handle liquids?

A: No…………… you’ll need a whole different kind of vacuum that can handle the water.

Q: Why does the rotating head always fall out when using? Isn’t there somehow to click it in so it doesn’t come out all the time?

A: I had to jam it in pretty hard and it usually stayed. however, because of this and other issues, I ended up going for a different hand vac

Q: How do I change from the motorized head to the crevice tool.

A: It just pulls out. Unfortunately, it sticks sometimes and you think you have to be strong. Try to pull at slightly different angles

Q: can I purchase a battery for this.

A: Supposedly the battery is replaceable. I’ve heard differing opinions as to whether keeping it on the charger all the time makes the batteries die sooner. We tend to not keep it plugged in until it needs a charge.

Q: where can I find the replacement battery 18 volt

A: I am sure I saw it on Amazon. The battery is about 35. If you saw my review it states that my first Shark was replaced because the battery ‘died. I do not think it is worth saving 15 to replace the battery. For the difference in price, you can get a new one with a new charging station and brush.

Q: Does anyone know how this vac compares to the Black and Decker Pivoting Cordless vac? They’re both 18v and seem powerful.

A: I am also happy with the Shark, but don’t have any way to compare the two.

Q: I only need this for cat shedding hairs all over the place in spring and summer. How well will this work compared to other brands if you know?

A: My guess. We don’t have pets. The motorized brush attachment could do what you want. I can’t compare it to other hand-held vacuums.

Q: Wondering if anyone knows how this compares with the Eureka RapidClean. I was just about to order it but saw that this scores were higher on CR.

A: I don’t know about the rapid clean but I own an 18v DeWalt hand vac and the shark will eat it alive.

Q: Does this work well with getting dog hair off the car cloth interiors?

A: Compared tooter hand “pet hair” vacuums – the Shark does a great job with pet fur. Just make sure you clean the filter periodically.

Q: what kind of battery?

A: I don’t own this vacuum but I was wondering the same thing. A brief look online and going to sharkclean.com says it’s an 18 volt NiCd battery. I tend to dislike most NiCd devices, mostly because they seem to lose their ability to hold a charge sooner rather than later compared to LiOn batteries.

Q: Is this just a dust buster or can it tackle carpeted stairs in a home with pets?

A: Yes use it on my stairs with the beater brush attachment I love my shark

Q: Does the light stay on the whole time it is charging?

A: Yes. This gadget is well worth the money.

Q: does the green light stay on or blink when charging?

A: STEADY while charging, out when fully charged. Instruction sez unplug the charger when the unit is charged.

Q: how good is it at vacuuming pet hair

A: works very well on pet hair, great on upholstered furniture and carpeted stairs.

Q: Anyone has trouble with the rubber flap warping? It doesn’t stay closed on mine anymore

A: Not sure about that but I just tossed mine in the trash.. would not hold a charge.

Q: How does this do with pet hair on microfiber couch?

A: I don’t have a microfiber couch, but do have a microfiber chair. However, my dog does not get up in the chair. I like it for small areas and the stairs. It does a great job.

Q: does it come with batteries

A: It’s RECHARGEABLE and holds the charge long enough to vacuum my stairs…I LOVE this product because it’s so handy and ready whenever I need to use it

Q: Bought sv780, charged 16 hrs. use in the car for 1 minute, then move next area. after7- 1-minute use, it turns on for 5 7 seconds only. is this proper?

A: I don’t think so. I used mine to vacuum 2 flights of stairs and it was going strong. I only charged it for 5 hours then unplugged it as the directions say.

Q: I only need this for cat shedding hairs all over the place in spring and summer. How well will this work compared to other brands if you know?

A: Not sure compared to other brands but I have two dogs and two cats, one long – haired white fur, like an angora sweater. He sheds like crazy on my carpeted stairs and the Shark picks everything up like a champ!!! I love it. Saves me the hassle of lugging my upright vacuum cleaner up and down the stairs. It works.

Q: Will it pick up pet hair off a vinyl couch? Also, I am seeing mixed answers as to whether it needs to stay in the charging cradle when not in use.

A: I would be afraid to use it on a vinyl couch. It is designed for carpet. The 2 regular tools do not have as much suction. The carpet head is motorized.

We always left it in the charging cradle but have left it off for a week with no noticeable difference.

Q: my oval brush (not the motorized one) won’t stay on the vacuum. Whenever I lift it from the surface I’m cleaning, the brush falls off. ???

A: Push it in harder

Q: The pet brush attachment keeps falling off, no matter how hard I pushed it in. Any suggestions to keep it stay attached firmly?

A: This is an issue with the product. My first one kept coming off. My new one locks into place perfectly. Call the company. I called them and got the President. They couldn’t have been nicer. I had a new machine in 2 days.

Q: does the green light stay on or blink when charging?

A: Stays solid green until done charging then shuts off

Q: How do you change the brush adapters?

A: They just pull out, some prints help it stay secure and direct how they fit in.

Q: How long does it hold a charge? We have three staircases in our home . . . .

A: Since the one, I bought on Amazon wouldn’t charge at all, I am not sure. However, the other one I have I would guess you could vacuum two, but I not sure about three staircases.

Q: Is this better at picking up pet hair on furniture than the normal upright shark rotator vacuum attachments?

A: I can’t say because this is the only shark vacuum I have owned. It has great suction power and the brush attachment works great on carpeted stairs and upholstery.

Q: How long does the charge last?

A: It’s never run out on me!! I use it for two flights of stairs, like a dustpan after sweeping up dog hair, and small messes. I think I could vacuum out my car but haven’t tried it …

Q: Do you have to hold the power button down all the time while vacuuming?

A: No. The power button works like any normal on/off switch. Just push it forward, the Shark powers on and stays there until you to push it back. Very happy with my Shark, by the way.

Q: how good is it at vacuuming pet hair

A: It’s great for pet hair with the brush attachment!

Q: Can it clean my dog hair?

A: Yes! This works great for my 2 dogs. I have a microfiber dark brown couch with blonde haired dogs and it gets all the hair off easily with a few swipes.

Q: Is there a way to purchase motorized pet hair attachment

A: you won’t need it. it’s great for pet hair

Q: How well does this perform with pet hair?

A: Fantastic! Tremendous power and with a Golden Retriever, I know from pet hair!

Q: Will it work in a car? And get rid of pet hair there?

A: Hello, yes this will work in a car and get rid of any pet hair. I have one and works well.

Q: How does this do with pet hair on microfiber couch?

A: Don’t have a cat but my sister in law says her’s works well on cat hair.

Q: Is this good for dog hair and cat hair? constantly needing to clean the sofa with lint rollers. Need a different method…Vac Seems to be a good one.

A: Tested on dog hair that typically sticks to everything. The vacuum did well picking it up, especially on a full charge

Q: Does this work well with getting dog hair off the car cloth interiors?

A: Compared tooter hand “pet hair” vacuums – the Shark does a great job with pet fur. Just make sure you clean the filter periodically…

Q: Does the vacuum pick up human hair?

A: I use it in my bathroom to pick up human hair, but I use the vac with one of the attachments referred to as cleaning tools. My bathroom has a tile floor. This is not my main vacuum cleaner so I use it to help get corners & hard to reach areas.

Q: IS IT FOR EVERYTHING OR CAT HAIR

A: Everything

Q: Is this better at picking up pet hair on furniture than the normal upright shark rotator vacuum attachments?

A: I only have a handheld vacuum. It kicks ass. Picks up pet hair easily.

Q: I have bought a pet dust buster before and found the suction awful on furniture. How does this work with suction on a couch from cat hair?

A: I have found the shark very effective with cat hair.

Q: I only need this for cat shedding hairs all over the place in spring and summer. How well will this work compared to other brands if you know?

A: I used it to pick up black lab hair and it worked well.

Q: Will this work on hard surfaces as well? Or just carpet? Got a lot of pet hair in places other than carpet and upholstery

A: we use mainly on hardwood floors It picks up after our dog hair and grass that she brings in on her feet. works good

Q: My Sharp cordless will not pick up dirt and hair that it once did. How can I fix it?

A: My Shark Pet is still working perfectly so I cannot give you an answer from experience with your problem. However, I am CAREFUL to keep my filter clean after each use and wash it out and exchange it with a clean or new filter.

Q: is there any way to order replacement attachments for this? my pet hair brush attachment stopped spinning, and I checked the belt and it is fine.

A: Unless there is something tangled in the brush when it stops spinning, it means the motor is gone. This type of vacuum does not usually last more than a couple of years. I just bought my 3rd one, as I prefer this model despite lack of longevity. It will still “sound fine” but if there is no suction, the motor is gone.

Q: Is this just a dust buster or can it tackle carpeted stairs in a home with pets?

A: I’ve been impressed with it. It has a rolling brush so it picks up hair well. I don’t use it a whole lot on the carpet unless there’s a small mess, but it has worked well on everything I’ve used it for.

Q: Is it for steps? Does it do deep carpet and how long does the charge last?

A: I have used it for steps, but not on a deep carpet. It does a good job for a hand-held vacuum. I use it primarily to clean the car interior, for which it does well. It received a high rating by Consumer Reports, which determined my choice. I cannot answer how long a charge lasts.

Q: Will this work on hard surfaces as well? Or just carpet? Got a lot of pet hair in places other than carpet and upholstery

A: Yes it works great on both!

Q: Is this a good vacuum to use on the carpet of my steps?

A: Yes

Q: Can you purchase new attachments? My carpet one isn’t working properly anymore.

A: I think there’s an 800 number on the instructions/warranty booklet.

A: yes, handy for small pick-ups, both flooring & carpeting

Q: how good is it at vacuuming pet hair

Q: Will it pick up pet hair off a vinyl couch? Also, I am seeing mixed answers as to whether it needs to stay in the charging cradle when not in use.

A: I would be afraid to use it on a vinyl couch. It is designed for carpet. The 2 regular tools do not have as much suction. The carpet head is motorized.

We always left it in the charging cradle but have left it off for a week with no noticeable difference.

Q: I am looking for a vacuum to clean window screens in place. Do you think that this model would do that?

A: it does great on carpet, but not sure how it would do on a window screen, as I haven’t used it for that. it does come with a few attachments, so it’s worth a try.

Q: Is this better at picking up pet hair on furniture than the normal upright shark rotator vacuum attachments?

A: I can’t say because this is the only shark vacuum I have owned. It has great suction power and the brush attachment works great on carpeted stairs and upholstery.

Q: does it pick up cat litter?

A: yes it will pick up kitty litter. if the litter is on the bare floor I use the other attachment but if on a carpet then I use the beater bar. works great for pet hair on the furniture.

Q: My Sharp cordless rotary is not turning, how can I fix it?

A: I’m sorry unless it’s bound up by string or carpet threads, which I have had happen, I don’t have any other suggestion. If it were me I’d call Customer Service for the vacuum and ask them. The part is replaceable.

Q: How many pieces of attachments does it come with?

A: Mine came with 3 attachments: a motorized brush for picking up the fur on carpets, a crevice device (as they call it) and a device with a soft brush rim to use when you don’t want to scratch surfaces. I
