The Shark® DuoClean® Lift-Away Speed™ Upright Vacuum NV771 is a compact upright vacuum. The Shark NV771 model is only about 13 pounds which is perhaps the most lightweight upright model designed for whole-home cleaning. It is the predecessor of the Shark NV803 for which we have a separate review.
As a corded, compact unit, it is a nice choice for small apartments and seniors who love a lightweight option.
Similar to most upright units of Shark brand, you still can enjoy a bunch of benefits such as Duoclean brushroll for multiple floor surfaces, a complete seal system plus HEPA filter to give the best air quality, a swivel steering head and LEDs system for better visibility.
The Shark N7771 and the Shark N7770 are both older model vacuums, however if you can get either of them on sale, they are a good option. But in our opinion, you may want to consider one of Shark’s newer Powered Lift Away models, before making a final decision.
Over the years, Shark had not only come out with new technologies but they have also been able to get costs down for vacuums with similar features.
Shark Duoclean Upright NV771 has 2-speed settings for bare floors and carpets. Because it uses a motor of 900 W, it is expected to give a great performance on bare floors and low pile carpets while it can be a bit struggling with larger debris or embedded pet hairs.

Currently, this model has a good discount — but make sure you look close before you make the final purchase. As an older model, it is often being sold used, which is fine if you are either getting a really good deal or using a services such as Amazon certified renewed.

The Shark Duoclean Upright NV771 is a compact design (13 lbs.), meaning that its weight is lighter than the standard models for about 2-3 lbs.

Shark NV771 does have the DuoClean technology like the NV803; however, it is not a powered lift away. When you put the NV771 in lift away mode there is no power to the floor nozzle.
The NV803 is a powered lift away where there is the power to the floor nozzle in lift away mode. Besides, the NV771 is lighter in weight (13 lbs. vs 14.5 lbs.)
When first released, Shark NV803 was more expensive than the Shark NV771 model but currently, the price of them are in the same range. Because Shark Duoclean NV803 is more advanced, popular and has a bunch of tools, it is recommended to take Shark Duoclean NV803.

Shark Duoclean Powered Lift-Away® NV831 is similar to the NV803 model in terms of technologies, so the comparison between it and the Shark Duoclean NV771 are also quite similar.
Other than the powered lift-away feature, these two Shark upright vacuums also differ in terms of size and power. The Shark Duoclean NV771 is lighter than the NV831 (13 lbs. vs 17 lbs.) and has a smaller dust cup (0.9 dry quarts vs 1.5 dry quarts). Additionally, the Shark Duoclean NV831 has a stronger motor 1150 W.
Shark Duoclean NV831 is a great option however its price is still expensive (because it is an old model without discounts). On the price value, Shark NV771 is a better choice.
