Overview
When it first came out, the Ecovacs Deebot 901 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner with Smart Navi 3.0 was the most advanced robot vacuum of Ecovacs Robotics brand, incorporating new sensor technologies and more features to be comparable to Roomba 900s series.
While you can still find it online, it is not among Ecovacs current line of robotic vacuums. Newer models include the DEEBOT series of 2-in-1 robot vacuum cleaners and hard floor mops such as the OZMO 950, OZMO 938, OZMO 920, OZMO T8 and he OZMO T5.
The Deebot 901 uses the 3rd generation of sensors (laser sensors) to detect the floor types and obstacles.
It has both auto-recharging and auto-resuming benefits for continuous cleaning. The auto-resume feature is exclusive to advanced, expensive robot vacuum only. Perhaps, Deebot 901 is the rare inexpensive model to have such benefits.
The robot is wifi connected and voice control applicable (Alexa and Google Assistant). It can run for 100 minutes once fully charged.
Deebot 901 is more convenient than Deebot 711 (read review), Deebot N79s (read review) because this model has virtual boundaries to block areas where you do not want the robot to enter. During the cleaning process, you can see the real-time data via the App on a smartphone.
However, Deebot 901 is not very advanced in mapping technology. While it shows real-time mapping, it does not save the map of each floor plan larger than 1200 sq ft. Therefore, you should make sure to keep the area less than 1200 sq ft at the initial mapping process. The next cleaning/ mapping process, you can add more areas.
Besides, Deebot 901 can not recognize each room, therefore, you can not clean a specific area of the floor plan.
On overall, Deebot 901 is a nice option for those who are seeking an affordable robot with advanced features.

Should You Buy Deebot 901 in 2020?
Although this Deebot 901 is not very popular, it possesses a lot of advanced benefits to make the cleaning performance more efficient similar to Roomba 900s model.
An alternative to Deebot 901 is Roborock 5S model. This robot vacuum has similar technologies and it can clean bigger areas for longer time (up to 150 minutes)
Technologies and benefits of Deebot 901
Construction
Deebot 901 is a circular shaped robot vacuum cleaner with a standard motor of 1000 Pa. This model construction is similar to most of the robot vacuum in the field.
The unit has a moderate dust bin of 350 mL, HEPA filters and a super strong battery (3000 mAh Li-ION). This model can run for 100 minutes and require 240 minutes of charging time after depleting.
To control Deebot 901, you just only need to press the main power button on the top and control the robot via App.
Deebot 901 does not have a remote like Deebot N79s or Deebot 711. Therefore, you need to install the App on your phone and use 2.4 G wifi to be able to control, schedule the unit.
The 3rd generation of sensor technology
Deebot 901 uses LDS laser located on the machine head to identify the room and the furniture. The laser sensor technology is more accurate than the camera technology (VSLAM) or acoustic technology.
With laser beams, Deebot 901 is capable of creating an accurate floor plan with furniture, doorsteps and other obstacles. Therefore, it is more efficient to clean the room and save more battery.
Voice control
This unit is Alexa Voice and Google Assistant compatible. You can control, schedule, check for real-time cleaning date on the App too. Please notice Deebot 901 can only be used with 2.4 GHz wifi. Make sure it fits your home wifi bandwidth.
Virtual boundaries
Only Deebot 901 and Ecovacs OZMO 930 (a wet mopping robot) has this feature among many Deebot models. The virtual boundaries are extremely useful if you have cord, wire, toilet need to be blocked.
Area mode cleaning
Deebot 901 has area mode cleaning, meaning that it can clean a specific area on demand. However, it is very difficult for Deebot 901 to recognize a separate area of the whole floor plan. The area mode of Deebot 901 is not as impressive as Roomba 900s.
