Bissell Proheat 2X 1548 carpet cleaner reviews

Quick recap

Overall Rating: 84/100

If you are looking for an efficient, reliable upright carpet cleaner in 2019, Bissell Proheat 2X 1548 should be on your consideration list. This model has been a legendary unit of Bissell which has all of the benefits for general use and home with pets.

Bissell Proheat 2X 1548 has a lightweight, compact design and low profile, you can clean carpet under tables, beds…easily without removing them out of the room. The best benefit of Bissell Proheat 2X 1548 is that it has 2 cleaning modes: Quick mode for fast drying and Deep clean mode for removing the dirt, stains…

Bissell Proheat 2X 1548 is the foundation of many successors such as Bissell 1986, Bissell 2007…

The main downside of Bissell Proheat 2X 1548 is the excessive consumption of shampooer, especially when using Deep cleaning mode. However, to relive a carpet with a lot of stains, hair bunnies, using more shampooer will not be a big deal to our opinion.

Recommendation – Should you buy Bissell Proheat 2X 1548

If you have pets, perhaps Bissell Proheat 2X 1548 will be the best option for your home. The upgraded version Bissell 1986 is another alternative you can also consider. You can check the main difference between them here.

Brush design

Bissell Proheat 2X 1548 uses Bissell best brush head for the upright carpet cleaner that is 2 counter rotating brush rolls and 2 edge sweepers on a single brush unit for cleaning deep down to carpet foundation and capable of edge cleaning.

The brush head of Bissell Proheat 2X 1548 will clean the carpet areas 2 times in a single pass to loosen more dirt and dust when compared with casual models (where a single brush roll is used).

The brush has a low profile and this is one of the best part of Bissell Proheat 2X 1548 because most of the upright carpet cleaner has a higher brush profile.

The low profile brush head will enable you to clean furniture and you do not need to remove the furniture before cleaning. It is time and effort saving.

Optimized for usage

2 cleaning modes -unlike other upright unit, Bissell Proheat 2X 1548 has two cleaning modes. If you are busy, you can choose express cleaning mode which will clean your carpet and dry in only 1 hour.

If your are carpet is heavily soiled and stained, you can use the deep mode for further cleaning to remove worst stains and allow the carpet to dry in 3 hours.

Optimized for suction and cleaning performance

Motor 6.8 amps rating plus heatwave technology – the heatwave technology allows you to use hot water for maximal dirt extraction and it will keep the water hot during the cleaning time.

The strong motor will give strong suction to remove excess water so carpets can dry faster in less than 1 hour.

Tools and cleaning formulas: the model comes with 7 foot Hose, Spot Cleaning Tools (3″ Tough Stain Tool, Pet Stain Tool) and 2 Bissell shampoo formula samples.

FAQs and troubleshooting of Bissell Proheat 2X 1548

Question: My machine doesn’t pick any water back up

Answer: I had that problem too when I first bought mine, the part on the front that sucks the water up if it isn’t snapped in just right it won’t work. And I just kept messing with it until it worked. It’s the best shampooer I’ve ever owned

Question: how do I clean an accumulation of fuzz and dirt from the carpet washer?

Answer: Bissell included a thin flat cleaning tool with the unit, it works well but I also once had to take my cleaner apart to clean it before storing it for about six weeks

Question: how long is the warranty?

Answer: 3 years. It is lasting a long time, Bissell is the best we have two, one for cat hair and one for cat puck.

Question: Can this machine be used on deep pile shag rugs?

Answer: I don’t see why not, but I will tell you, mine broke after about a month, it stopped sucking. I ended up switching to the Hoover Pet Pro, and I love it!

Question: Can you use the pet stain tool on upholstery? What’s the difference between the 2 in 1 pet tool and just the pet stain remover?

Answer: unsure. Let me know if you find it can.

Question: Is there any real difference between this 1548 Orange and Black model and the 1986 Green and Purple model??

Answer: The main difference is that Bissell 1986 has a sprayer on the head to tackle stains, pet urine. It also has a bigger water tank (1.25 Gal)

Question: How to Replace wheel?

Answer: You can call 1-800-237-7691.

Question: Can u use Clorox in your water with this machine? How about vinegar?

Answer: No you cannot, bleach and vinegar will damage the machine and its ability to spray.

Question: Does anyone else find that this vacuum cleaner puts out a lot of water but doesn’t suck up the same amount of water?

Answer: It doesn’t suck up what it puts down. No machine does. It leaves 1/3 behind. Pulls out a ton of dirt. But you get what you pay for.

Question: Does anyone else find that this vacuum cleaner puts out a lot of water but doesn’t suck up the same amount of water?

Answer: Just to be clear..it is a carpet cleaner and not a vacuum per se. But anyway, yes it is normal for the amount being extracted to be slightly less than the amount you put down.

Question: why are the brushes spinning when using hand tool I don’t think they should

Answer: Hi Steven, on this cleaner the brushes will always rotate when the machine is turned on.

Question: Does the 3 inches Tough Stain Tool work in the wet mode for scrubbing stairs?

Answer: sorry, I have no idea.

Question: can this be used as a vacuum?

Answer: No it cannot, this machine is intended for wet cleaning only.

Answer: You might wanna contact the company.

Question: Is there’s any way that you can open up the dirty water tank to gain full cleaning access to the tank?

Answer: Yes, you can take it apart completely. There is a plastic rim holding the inner workings of the dirty water tank. You can twist that off to take the inner workings out for cleaning.

Question: Does the hose squirt water and cleaner, or does it just vacuum/suction?

Answer: Yes, it distributes water and cleaning solution into the carpet. Works really well. I have been pleased with mine.

Question: can I use it on the ceramic floor?

Answer: Why would you use a carpet cleaner on a ceramic floor?

Question: Does this have 2 tanks or does it have 1 tank with that bladder bag?

Answer: Yes, I used the attachment to shampoo carpeted steps.

Question: Does this clean going forward and backward like the Big Green machine?

Answer: Yes, it does.

Question: Can you use this on Wool carpeting?

Answer: Don’t know why you cannot if you understand the cleaning instructions for the type of carpet.

Question: Where can I order the 7ft hose and cleaning tool mine was misplaced?

Question: Does it come with tools to use clean stairway?

Answer: Yes, there is a hose connected to the unit and hand tools for stairways, upholstery, small rugs, etc.

Question: Do any of these newer Bissell carpet cleaners have a switch to allow only water for a rinse and switch back to shampoo? I had an older one that did.

Answer: No, there are only two tanks….one containing the shampoo mixture and the other for the dirty wasted pulled from the carpet. There is no tank that only holds water. You would have to empty the shampoo container and add only water to it.

Question: Is this a steam vac?

Answer: No….you add hot water to the top container along with carpet shampoo and it sprays the hot water onto your carpet. Most carpet cleaners are not true “steam” cleaners including the ones you rent like a ‘rug doctor’. But this Bissell does a pretty good job at cleaning your carpets.

Question: can I use it without formula? I have a baby so want to use water only

Answer: Yes, however, the cleaning results may not be as good when used without formula.

Question: how do I operate my machine?

Answer: Did you receive an operation handbook with your purchase. There are detailed instructions printed in the book. You may also download this information from the Bissell website or call the help desk.

Question: Do the bristles in the main unit stop spinning when you are using the hose?

Answer: Yes. The brushes will not run when the unit’s handle is in the locked upright position.

Question: How do you clean this?

Answer: The tanks are both easily rinsed out. The front plastic covering that sucks up the water has a plastic cleaning tool to remove debris and the orange part where you attach the hose you could put some water through that to rinse any remaining dirt out. Hair still gets in the brushes but like a vacuum, I just cut mine out.

Question: Can we use without the solution

Answer: Yes, will be like a rinse version, but the solution is great. And Helps with the deep or express cleaning.

Question: does this kill dust mites?

Answer: No, this cleans your carpet…

Question: Does this vacuum the carpet every week?

Answer: No. It’s strictly for deep cleaning

Answer: Oh wow. I’m not sure. I’d try to contact Bissell or a shampoo/vacuum repair shop.

Question: Why are some models listed as a carpet cleaner and carpet shampooer? what’s the difference?

Answer: I would venture to say cleaner and shampooer, either steam cleans or dispenses shampoo from the same appliance during the cleaning.

Question: The hose worked for a while, then it seems to be clogged and can’t spray anything. Is there a way to clean the hose line out? Works well in the car.

Answer: Be creative

Question: Can this be used on bare tile floors as well? Or patio stone?

Answer: It has the capability; however, you will need to purchase the bare floor tool separately.
